This role offers a unique opportunity for an agile and curious individual, who is passionate about challenging existing processes/ways of working and can offer tailored solutions to problems.

The Risk Challenge team is a 2nd line function that partners with all areas of the business to provide valuable insights and challenge through deep dives commissioned by executive management and the Risk & Capital Committee. We also actively engage with the transformation community to provide risk advisory and challenge to the portfolio of strategic change projects.

The Opportunity:

As part of a mature 2nd line Risk function, you will deliver effective risk management advice and challenge to the business, including:

  • Production of insightful and targeted deep dives to recommend improvements to the business.
  • Delivery of 2nd line risk challenge to different areas of the business, leveraging your engagement with the transformation community and the business sponsors of key strategic projects as appropriate.
  • Creation/delivery of key risk reporting (e.g. relevant sections of the ORSA) and representation of Risk at relevant management forums as required.
  • Support of 2nd line activities related to operational risk management, with a particular focus on transformation risk.

Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing insights to the business: As part of each deliverable and each interaction with the business you will be curious to enable you to provide high-quality insights to enable better risk management and business decisions. You will be tenacious in delivery and be aware of the implications of your recommendations for the business. You will support process improvements which will require frequent engagement with all functions.
  • Stakeholder engagement: In your role you will participate in business meetings throughout various functions in order to understand and support business requirements, often providing value through provision of insight and challenge. You will focus on our customers and put yourself 'in their shoes'. You will build and maintain strong relationships with these stakeholders at EO and Group level, creating customer focus and supporting the business in decision making by improving awareness and understanding of risk. These relationships will enable you to become a recognised Risk contact throughout the business.
  • Good communication skills will be required to collaborate and build relationships with a range of business stakeholders on a regular basis. This will also include presenting draft findings and recommendations and being receptive to feedback. Deliverables will be structured logically and key messages communicated clearly to ensure appropriate impact.
  • Being a technical expert and key deliverables: The role will require delivery of key reporting to the standards expected of your line manager. This will include:
    • Delivering insightful deep dives, including undertaking independent analysis, identifying findings and proposing solutions.
    • Providing second line challenge to a range of business functions and engaging with business stakeholders, with a particular focus on transformation activity.
    • Being an advocate and actively demonstrating good risk management discipline through role modelling appropriate risk behaviours.
    • Representing Risk at relevant forums, providing appropriate and value-adding challenge.
    • Collaborating with other members of the Risk team, working as one team and demonstrating engagement across all assurance functions.
  • Training and people development: You will be part of an inclusive team, and be an advocate in creating an environment which examples the business' "DNA" and culture. This may include training junior individuals and/or supporting with disseminating knowledge throughout the Risk function.

You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Knowledge of general insurance the main product lines and operations of a global re/insurer preferable
  • Experience of project risk management desirable
  • Good engagement and relationship management with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to operate at pace in a changing business environment with strong organisational skills
  • Curiosity and tenacity in delivery to drive change within the business
  • Ability to analyse information and data to provide insights
  • Conversant with risk management processes, language and tools/systems
  • Good report production/written skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Commercial acumen
