Senior Accountant

For a respectable international player in insurance, I am looking for a driven professional with affinity with financial services who can fulfill the role of Senior Accountant

1. Purpose

Responsible for ledger maintenance and other financial operations leading to:

* Timely, accurate and complete month end closing of actuals and supporting documentation

* Operating effective financial and tax processes and executing internal controls for the entity / entities in scope

* Maintaining day to day accounting and tax records, including P&L and B/S substantiation, participation in change and improvement projects and treasury coordination where needed Support in a proactive, professional and high quality finance service to the Finance Operations department in Europe that offers maximum service levels and minimises costs where possible.

2. Dimensions

The job holder will have the following responsibilities:

* Up to date and accurate record keeping of finance and tax operations, (inter system) reconciliations and management of the general ledger through effective and efficient processes

* Maintain financial controls

* Expense reporting

* Tax filing preparation and liaison with tax specialists (CIT, VAT, IPT, Wage tax)

* Investment accounting

* Coordinating the cash management where needed

* Preparation of audit files * Pro-actively recommending improvements to processes and procedures and involvement in implementation

4. The Operating Environment and Context of the Job

This role places an emphasis on quality accounting performance in a broad sense. The role forms part of the cross country Finance Operations team consisting of accounting operations (including accounts payable), tax operations, reporting and control and credit control. Customers across Finance and Business areas will rely on high quality, controlled and timely information. Key business decisions will be based on information produced and, as such, it is imperative that processes are controlled and outputs are challenged and verified. Close relationships will need to be maintained with all areas in Tax, Finance and Business involved in the creation, supply or receipt of financial services.

5. Key Competencies:

Job Specific:

* Strong business awareness. Financial services experience required - strong preference for general insurance company.

* Master's or Bachelor's degree in economics or accounting with at least 5 years of relevant experience. * Understanding of EUCs and related control framework.

* Pro-active regarding contributes in knowledge-sharing and company wide / team projects.

* Technical accounting knowledge (IFRS, domestic GAAP and Tax etc).

* Strong knowledge of (financial) accounting processes, systems and controls and excellent Excel skills. * Must be willing to work extended hours when appropriate.

* Fluent in English and Dutch.

* Analytical but retains eye for detail.

* Understanding of financial accounting systems, preferably Coda.

* Strong communication skills.
