Group Technical Accountant

The Group Technical Accountant will play a key role in the production of group, statutory and regulatory reporting and be heavily involved in the interpretation and implementation of new and existing regulatory and financial reporting requirements.

Key Contribution Areas

  • Take a lead role in the design and preparation of Group and subsidiaries accounting policies including IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), US GAAP, Solvency II and other regulatory obligations.
  • Support Group and Subsidiary Finance Teams in addressing technical accounting queries and preparation of relevant position papers.
  • Develop excellent inter-departmental relationship with a view to embedding technical and regulatory accounting knowledge in Group Finance and across Subsidiary Finance Teams.
  • Ensure that any points raised by either internal or external audit are followed up and promptly resolved.
  • Represent Group Finance on internal and external Financial Reporting Technical/Regulatory Committees and across the Group.
  • Support the design and maintenance of a Group compliance and internal controls framework encompassing the maintenance of the Group Accounting Manual and Accounting Policy processes.
  • Support in the embedding risk culture and control framework within Group Finance including identification of risks and controls and remedial actions to address all points.
  • Be flexible and provide support across Finance for all tasks including M&A project work when required.

Functional or Technical Knowledge and Skill Required

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA)
  • Financial services experience is crucial; experience in insurance would be a distinct advantage.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of financial reporting standards, in particular IFRS and Solvency II (US GAAP would be an advantage).
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of the insurance regulatory environment.
  • Experience with accounting for derivative transactions and hedging activities a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in both financial accounting and reporting; experience with consolidation an advantage.
  • Computer literate - Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word and experienced in the use of general ledger packages. Experience of Sunsystems and /or SAP would be a distinct advantage.
