Job Description

As a DevOps Infrastructure Engineer, you will work for a Pioneer of Medical Technology. You will contribute to the further technological growth and development of a Big Data Analytics application that is currently processing in excess of 2 million documents, plus sub documents.

The Infrastructure Engineer will; support, maintain and build infrastructure solutions for project and development teams. You will provide business critical DevOps/CloudOps expertise, feeding into the infrastructure architectural solutions and seek to identify improvements and efficiencies proactively, utilising new technologies and existing tools.

Key Accountabilities

  • Produce secure, scalable, available and cost-effective cloud- based infrastructure
  • Identify repetitive, manual tasks and develop and implement automation tools for increased productivity and reliability
  • Experience in debugging a complex multi-server service
  • Develop and maintain tools and services useful in DevOps/CloudOps environments such as performance monitoring, security monitoring, capacity monitoring, deployment/configuration, continuous integration/build servers and cloud resource creation scripts
  • Deliver high performing continuous delivery (build, test and release) infrastructures that underpin agile delivery ensuring that key systems are analysed, maintained and improved
  • Script, test and deploy new versions of environments and target infrastructures
  • Support development and QA across various projects to satisfy their delivery
  • Create detailed documentation of current and newly implemented environments with associated troubleshooting steps and provide knowledge transfer to other team members
  • Carry out 3rd line project and BAU duties
  • Review proposed changes to infrastructure subsystems and components and feedback findings to the TDD
  • Work with external suppliers and build good relations whilst challenging their processes and quality of deliverables
  • Make roadmap recommendations as to improvements in the infrastructure and the adoption of good practices and improving internal capability building

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent relevant technical training and accreditation including extensive experience in delivering infrastructure as code and infrastructure design
  • Experience specifying, verifying and troubleshooting rapid development of custom scripts in languages such as python, go, perl, bash
  • Strong experience with the majority of the following technologies: DevOps tooling, git, vCloud Air, Openstack, Ubuntu, Redhat, infrastructure management and automation (e.g. Saltstack, Ansible) Terraform, DNS, Apache, nginx, MySQL, mongoDB, postregSQL, Rest APIs, Hadoop, NFS, Jenkins, Vagrant, Open Source technologies
  • Familiarity with network concepts, designs and protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL,
  • Experienced in DevOps/CloudOps principles, e.g. automation/infrastructure as code, with strong experience in designing environments required to support production, dev, QA, staging, continuous integration and deployment pipelines
  • Ability to design and support robust build, deployment and configuration management systems for multi-tier applications
  • In depth experience of AAA (LDAP/Kerberos/AD), ideally in ForgeRock products (OpenIDM, OpenDJ)
  • Application deployment strategies
  • Experience working in a highly complex technical environment with a demonstrable track record of delivering justifiable infrastructure in terms of performance, scalability, portability, resilience, reliability and security
  • Implementation of centralised solutions to automate the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of multiple server hardware and software
  • Experience working with multiple physical and virtual data centres and multiple cloud providers and interfacing with APIs
  • Excellent storage design and architecture at multi-PB scale and knowledge of object storage and Big Data environments
  • High attention to detail and correctness, ability to analyse and interpret complex data, excellent fault diagnosis and problem solving skills; including root cause analysis
  • Previous experience of effectively maintaining and developing IT documentation
  • A demonstrable ability to balance multiple priorities and operate comfortably in an environment that is developing and changing rapidly both in terms of staffing and scope of work
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrable ability to develop an effective team
  • Experience in Agile principles (Kanban/Scrum)
