Job Description

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a valuable member of our team, who is responsible for the technological direction and initiatives of all operations. The position provides vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives, as well as management of assigned direct and indirect personnel to maximize productivity, teamwork and results.

Essential Duties

  • Planning and strategy development of all technology initiatives to proactively advise Senior Management to help meet company goals and changing business needs
  • Offer recommendations on how to leverage technology to improve operational effectiveness relative to efficiency that ultimately impacts profitability
  • Operational oversight and management review of direct reports, as well as the entire IT Division, providing coaching and development across IT Leadership and support teams
  • Initiative involvement at the parent company level (Fairfax Financial Holdings) to help ensure strategic alignment, clarity and support of business priorities, proactive escalation of project delivery and operational issues/risk
  • Project based involvement to ensure all regulatory, compliance and internal control requirements are met
  • Customer-oriented approach to leadership of Information Technology organization and delivery of service across all business operations
  • A consistent record in leading strategic change in a complex global matrix environment to create sustainable improvement in service, cost, and productivity
  • Ensure all regulatory, compliance and internal control requirements are met, while maintaining a measured view of all risk affecting all areas of CIO responsibility and visible plans for mitigation of this risk.
  • Broad-based business and technical acumen in all aspects of Information Technology including full IT life cycle, budget creation and administration of funds and resource allocation
  • Work with other executives inside and outside of IT to prioritize initiatives and spending
  • Compile and review records to determine department productivity, quality of output and cost of service
  • Periodic international business travel

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Insurance business operational and technology experience covering assumed specialty commercial insurance and syndicate business models
  • Work Compensation experience required
  • Insurance background is required
  • Leadership of software development and implementation teams
  • Broad technology infrastructure deployment and management knowledge
  • Technology support team and call center oversight
  • Matrix management skills with technology operations outside of immediate control
  • Senior management team member role related to technology
  • Proactively advise the senior management team on the emerging technologies and digital trends that are the most relevant to the company's goals and evolving needs
  • IT compliance and audit owner for IT General Controls
  • Work closely with Internal Audit to ensure proper controls are in place
  • Issue management and triage
  • Work in advisory and influencer role with business operations outside of direct control to align towards a global technology agenda
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science or a related field of study
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or Business Management is preferred
  • Technology certifications preferred
  • Experience in Global Matrix Organization preferred
  • Diversified Information Technology experience with Technology Team Management in Re/Insurance business environment
  • Periodic international travel is required
