Delivering a Solution at Short Notice

RIAS, the specialist insurer for the over 50s, were suddenly left without a Head of Pricing after a candidate that had accepted an offer changed his mind about joining the company. They needed to fill this crucial role as soon as possible.

As well as the challenge of short notice, the location of the job would make finding the right candidate quickly almost impossible. While the major pool of talent at this level is in London; the job was based in Bournemouth, so it was likely that the ideal candidate would need to relocate.


RIAS selected Oliver James Associates because of our track record, sector experience and expertise in solving recruitment problems in the sector.   We put in place an interim solution to help with the insurer’s short-term needs and then created a market map of permanent candidates that had the right skills for this role. RIAS employed us for a retained search service, then we set about sifting through the candidates to identify those that would relocate for this opportunity and would fulfil the strategic needs of the role.


The process of finding an interim solution involved us sending three CVs, which led to interviews with two candidates. The job took 11 days to fill from the initial approach by the company requesting our help, to having an acceptance from the candidate.

For the permanent Head of Pricing role, we submitted three carefully sourced candidates for consideration and this quickly led to initial interviews. One candidate was brought back for a 2nd stage and subsequently offered. The process took 20 days from initially approaching the candidate to an offer being made and accepted.
