In May, Oliver James’ Client Relations team organised a series of ‘Talent in Insurance’ workshops, focusing on improving Diversity and Inclusion in the insurance market.
In these breakfast sessions, our industry clients examine their recruitment and retention strategies within the UK’s increasingly diversity-conscious commercial landscape.
Representatives from Prudential, Direct Line Group, Aspen, Pacific Life Re, Hiscox and more joined us across June and July, coming into Oliver James’ London offices to discuss industry patterns, insights and experiences on subjects like flexible working and female career advancement.
We’ve taken stock of the feedback received on the five sessions completed so far – chaired by leading executive coach, Katherine Bryant, from The Progress Partnership – and we’re pleased to report that 97% attendees rated them as ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’. Positive feedback has included:
- The value in “hearing other experiences and case studies”
- Practical tips on how to promote a more level playing field
- “Suggestions which can be converted into practical actions”
- Discussing “diverse interview points” with peers and Oliver James
- “Good ideas to go back to my organisation and share/implement”
Pacific Life Re’s attendee commented “I really enjoyed the sessions, and found them particularly useful – especially as they came up at a topical time for our company”, while other attendees found value in what different organisations were doing and how they could recruit a more diverse workforce in the UK insurance market.
Our next sessions will cover the importance of multi-generational workforces, and communicating with impact and influence. We’re hoping to achieve more great reviews from our clients as we continue these workshops throughout September and October.
