Quick Tips 007: Job Descriptions

31 July 2017

by

Job descriptions are your first insight into a role, with even the most basic advert revealing important details about both the position and business. Flex your critical eye and follow these simple steps…

1. Find the basics

Location… salary information… who you’ll be reporting to… any description that doesn’t have at least two of the three should be approached with caution.

2. Spot the clichés

Tired phrases and generic statements do not a good description make. Look deeper than calls for a ‘self-starter’ who will have ‘varied duties’ on a ‘competitive salary’.

3. Use the keywords

Before you apply, make sure you edit your CV to include some of the words that resonate with you from the description. This will show that you’ve paid attention to the finer details.

We’re only scratching the surface of what you can glean from a job description. Get the inside track from our team by calling +44 (0) 161 694 0730.
